MBBS's full form in medical is a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery. The MBBS course is a 5.5-year UG course (including 6 months of internship) in Medicine that equips students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills required to become a doctor. The rigorous MBBS program curriculum is designed to prepare students to diagnose and treat patients, conduct medical research, and pursue specialized postgraduate studies if desired. After completing the MBBS course, graduates are awarded the MBBS degree, enabling them to practice medicine or further specialize in various Medical fields.
To enroll in MBBS, candidates must pass Class 12 in the Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, English (which shall include practical tests), and Mathematics subjects and be over 17 years of age. Additionally, they must achieve a rank in the NEET merit list to be eligible. Admission to the MBBS course is based only on the entrance test for MBBS, i.e., NEET UG.
After finishing their 5.5-year MBBS course, all Medical graduates must complete a Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) for at least 6 months. Only after completing the internship can they become eligible for the MBBS degree, as per the requirements of the respective medical universities. After obtaining the MBBS course with NEET UG, candidates will be qualified as medical practitioners or MBBS doctors. - According to the National Medical Commission of India, there are 706 medical colleges in India, providing 1,09,170 MBBS seats.

MBBS Entrance Examination 2024: NEET UG Dates
The MBBS course admission process takes place in two stages. First of all, to get admission to the MBBS course in India, a student needs to appear for the MBBS entrance examination, i.e., the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). This is the only MBBS entrance examination required to get admission to the MBBS course and is accepted by both government and private institutions.
Secondly, candidates who meet the NEET UG cutoff will qualify to participate in the counselling process, which is conducted in two ways. The national-level NEET UG counselling is held by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for the 15 percent All India Quota (AIQ) seats.
