What is the qualification for DNB psychiatry?

DNB Post Diploma in Psychiatry is a PG-level program for doctors in India that they do after completing their postgraduate medical diploma. This pg course is for 2 years and focuses on researching various ideas for diagnosing, treating, and preventing emotional, mental, and behavioral disorders.

The full-time course is pursued at recognized accredited institutions/hospitals nationwide. Admission to this course is made via the DNB-PDCET ranking examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), followed by counseling based on the marks of the exam that is conducted by the (NBE ) National Board of Examinations (NBE) in Medical Sciences for allotment of DNB Post Diploma seat.

The fee for pursuing DNB-PD in Psychiatry (DPM) is Rs.1,25,000 annually. After completing their respective course, doctors can join the job market or pursue higher degree programs like master’s degrees and research degree programs acknowledged by NBEMS or NMC, where DNB Post Diploma in Psychiatry is a feeder qualification. Aspirants can take decent jobs in government positions such as Senior Resident, Registrar, Demonstrator, Tutor, etc.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates who have passed the final examination guiding to the award of Post Graduate Diploma from Indian Universities, which are duly identified as per requirements of the NMC Act 2019 and the revoked Indian Medical Council Act 1956, can apply for the DNB-PDCET 2023 in the same Broad Specialty.
  • The final examination result for the said Post Graduate Diploma qualification should have been announced on or before the cut-off date.
  • The aspirants must submit proof /documentary evidence confirming that the final examination result for their Post Graduate Diploma qualification was announced on or before the cut-off date.
  • Enrollment with the NMC/ the erstwhile Medical Council of India or State Medical Council is required, and the candidates should furnish their documentary proof on the day of the exam and at the time of counseling/admission.

Admission Procedure

  • The aspirants get admission to 2 years Post Diploma program after successfully qualifying for the DNB-PDCET examination, which NBEMS conducts.
  • The Centralized merit-based counseling conducted by the (NBE )National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences for allotment of DNB Post Diploma seats at NBEMS-accredited hospitals/medical colleges in order of specialty-specific merit.
  • Aspirants shall be able to opt for the NBEMS-accredited hospital/medical college of their choice as per the availability at their merit.
  • DNB-PDCET is a ranking exam, and a merit list will be generated for all appeared aspirants specialty-wise. There will be no minimum qualifying criteria either in percentiles or in the percentage of scores in the exam.
  • All aspirants appearing in the DNB Post Diploma CET examination will be ranked according to the marks they secured amongst other candidates of the same Broad specialty.
  • A particular merit will be prepared for each Broad specialty in which the Post Diploma CET examination is conducted.
